Oxford Bags

We booked a weekend break in Oxford with my main priority (apart from ticking off another football ground) was to bag at least a dozen previously uncharted new pubs in the city. This is the order of the pub crawl, * denotes a Good Beer Guide pub.

Siren 'Ryesing' (7%) ***+

2. St Aldgate's Tavern* (St Aldates)
Siren 'Yulu' (3.6%)***
Shotover 'Oxford Trinity' (4.2%)***

3. The Chester* (Chester Street)
Loose Cannon 'Abington Bridge' (4.1%)****
Liverpool Organic 'Harbour' (4.2%)****

4. Chequers* (High Street)
Bad & Co 'Dazed and Confused (5.5%)****
Black Sheep 'Rye Mild' (4.1%)***

5. The Eagle and Child (St Giles)
Black Isle 'Ursa Major' (3.8%)***+

6. Lamb & Flag* (St Giles)
Palmers 'Lamb & Flag' (4.4%)****

7. The Royal Oak (Woodstock Road)
Ilkley 'Mary Jane' (3.5%)***+

8. The Gardeners Arms* (Plantation Road)
Flying Monk 'Elmers' (3.8%)****
Animal XT 'Red Herring' (3.9%)****

9. The Rickety Press (Cranham Street)
Arkells 'Moonlight' (4.5%)****
Arkells 'Hoperation' (4.3%)****

10. The Old Bookbinders (Victor Street)
Green King 'Bookies Best' (4%)***+

11. The Crown (Cornmarket Street)
Adnams 'Two Boys' (4.4%)****
Greene King 'St Austell' (4.2%)***+

12. Fir Tree (Iffley Road)
Greene King 'Fireside' (4.5%)***
Greene King 'One Fir The Road' (3.9%)***

We had planned to bag a few more pubs on Sunday, but unfortunately due to industrial action by Cross Country Trains we had to leave Oxford earlier than planned.
I also re-visited the two JDW's - The Four Candles' and 'The Swan & Castle'  because the breadknife needed to tick them off.
