My first visit to Birmingham for donkeys years, so my mission was to complete the Wetherspoon pubs in the city centre (I've previously ticked The Soloman Cutler) and also add another 2 on route to Solihull.

We booked a weekend break in Oxford with my main priority (apart from ticking off another football ground) was to bag at least a dozen previously uncharted new pubs in the city. This is the order of the pub crawl, * denotes a Good Beer Guide pub.

Brix & the Extricated at Reflex

I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to catch Brix & the Extricated live in the Reflex record store in Newcastle. Coincidentally I had called into the shop to buy their new album on clear vinyl and it was then that I found out they were playing an acoustic set followed by a signing session later that afternoon.

OCD Hexham

There’s 9 pubs in Hexham which serves a decent pint of ale. Having been to the Tap & Spile, The Forum, Station Inn and the Globe Inn in the past, I took the train along with the breadknife to tick off the other five to complete the set.

A storming near 2 hour Set, playing most of the tracks from there fabulous recent album 'Weather Diaries' as well as some old classics.

My highlights were Seagull, Drive Blind and Leave Them All Behind.

My second show at the Boiler Shop and my fourth Ride gig. The last time I saw the band was 25 years ago at the long lost Mayfair.
